Error: 'Transaction Date Is Prior to Start Date for the Inventory Item'
Overview:
This error happens when QuickBooks Bridge syncs a Shopify order dated earlier than the inventory start date of a product in QuickBooks Online.
Detailed Information:
Why it happens
Each inventory item in QuickBooks has a Start Tracking Date (the “As of” date).
If an order’s transaction date in Shopify is earlier than this date, QuickBooks blocks the transaction.
How to fix
-
In QuickBooks, go to Sales → Products & Services → Edit the affected item.
-
Update the “As of” date under the Starting Value section to a date earlier than your first Shopify sale for that product. Save the changes in the product and retry syncing in QuickBooks Bridge from the “Pending Orders” list page.
-
If you are unable to change the start date of the product in QuickBooks, this is likely because QuickBooks Online does not allow editing the “As of” date when existing transactions are already linked to that product. In such cases, please let us know, and we can sync the order with the transaction date as per the latest inventory start date instead.
Tip: When converting products to inventory type in QuickBooks, make sure the start date is older than any historical Shopify orders you plan to sync.
