Customer Mapping – Map Customers by First and Last Name

Overview:

Our app syncs customers along with the orders from Shopify to QuickBooks. During the app setup, you will have two options for customer creation or mapping with existing customers in QuickBooks. This article explains option 1st - “Customers will be created based on their first and last name.”

Detailed Information:

Option 1st - Customers will be created based on their first and last name.

When this option is selected, customers are created or matched in QuickBooks based on their First Name and Last Name from Shopify.

• Our app matches the Shopify customer (First Name Last Name) with the Customer Display Name in QuickBooks.

• If a match is found, the existing QuickBooks customer is mapped to the order.

• If no match is found, a new customer is created in QuickBooks with the Display Name → First Name Last Name.

Example: A Shopify order is processed for the customer John Smith.

• If a customer with the display name “John Smith” already exists in QuickBooks, that existing customer will be mapped to the order synced by our app.

• If no such customer exists, our app will create a new QuickBooks customer with the display name → John Smith.

In both cases, the customer mapping is saved in our app and will be applied to all future orders for the same Shopify customer.

Important Notes:

• If a mapped customer (John Smith) is deleted or merged in QuickBooks, future Shopify orders for that customer will fail to sync.

• To resolve this, please let us know which customers were deleted or merged, and we will remap them in our app to ensure that both pending and future orders sync smoothly.

• If an order in Shopify is processed without a customer, it will be synced in QuickBooks under a common customer record named “Shopify Default Customer.”
